The Story Behind Scotland's Most Honest Fashion Brand
Where It All Began
Marrying into a farming family was no mean feat, but I thought I could rewrite the rule book. Maybe I could take some of the traditional farmers' wives on a journey with me.
I'm not your traditional farmer's wife. I'm definitely not a trained fashion designer. What I am is a dreamer who refuses to accept "that's just how things are."
The idea struck in 2020, mid-pandemic, during endless conversations with Murray about farming, long chats with my father-in-law, and family discussions that always seemed to circle back to the same frustrating reality. Here were people who poured their hearts into their flocks, weathering Scotland's harshest elements to produce some of the world's finest wool. Yet somehow, that incredible raw material was worth almost nothing to the people who created it.
I could see them all thinking, "Here goes Nadia again with another wild idea." The skeptical glances. The polite but doubtful nods. They thought it was impossible. Fashion doesn't work that way. Supply chains are too complex. The margins don't add up.
But I had to ask myself: What if they're all wrong? What if fashion could be different? What if we could make farming sexy again?
Sometimes the best ideas come from people who don't know they can't be done. And sometimes, you just have to prove the doubters wrong—even when they're the people you love most.
"We Shall Become the Hermès of Scotland!"
That's exactly what I told Murray when I pitched this wild idea. His initial laugh was... well, let's call it skeptical. But by evening, something had shifted. "Okay," he said, "let's see what we can come up with."
Our vision was bold: create luxury fashion using only the byproducts from our own farm, source every trim and lining within the UK, and manufacture everything here in Scotland. Not because it was easier—it definitely wasn't—but because it was right.
The Plot Twist: I Accidentally Bought a Factory
In 2022, I made what seemed like a wildfire investment decision that initially didn't go to plan. I accidentally bought a factory. Yes, accidentally. Sometimes when you're a dreamer chasing impossible ideas, you end up with the very thing you didn't know you needed.
Five years on, it's the best investment I've ever made. Because sometimes the universe conspires to help dreamers who refuse to give up.
The Real Education Begins
Since that moment, I've become obsessed. Not just with sheep in general, but with our sheep. The hardy souls that live outdoors in Scotland's unforgiving climate, developing wool that's not just beautiful—it's functional, resilient, extraordinary.
In 2023, we put our research to the test. Jo Dawson from HD Wool and Alan Walsh from Wool Keepers agreed to help us crunch the numbers. Could we really build a luxury, sustainable brand this way? Was it even viable?
The Journey: Within 450 Miles
Our wool's entire transformation—from fleece to finished fabric—happens within a 450-mile radius. Scouring, spinning, weaving, dyeing, finishing. Every step traceable, every process transparent.
Here's the Question That Changes Everything
How much do you think a farmer receives for a single fleece versus what I, as the end consumer, paid for that same wool after processing?
The answer will shock you. And it's exactly why Flock to Frock exists.
This Is More Than Fashion
This is about making farming profitable again. It's about proving that luxury doesn't require exploitation. It's about creating garments so beautiful, so perfectly crafted, that wearing them feels like carrying a piece of Scotland's soul with you.
Every thread tells the story of our land, our farmers, our commitment to doing things properly.
From our flock to your frock—this is fashion with integrity.
